A day with Stan
What does it mean to be a member of L’Arche?
During his stay Stan, the coordinator of L’Arche who visits twice a year, wanted to gather the whole community: assistants, disabled persons from the house and the workshop, and the Committee. About 30 were in attendance at the gathering in the St. John Damascene Church Hall. Stan had previously spent five good days with us sharing in the life of the house, making visits to the workshop and bringing together each group from each stream and helped us live together better. The last day we all met and after giving us news of L’Arche around the world (the new foundations and the new organizations), we were divided into small groups and asked each to tell of an event in the life of Al-Safina that was particularly striking. The time was meaningful and all were impacted by the stories shared. We gathered again as a large group and each person shared their story. This was a moment of truth that united us and made us aware of our connections and our sense of community. We need these moments of remembrance to feel our sense of belonging to L’Arche. We thank Stan for his visit and his support and how he created these moments for us to learn and grow.
