L’Arche was born of a spiritual vision: that every person, whatever their abilities, has a unique value and a gift to offer.

In the heart of old Damascus, beneath Mount Qassioun, Al Safina is a house where people of all religions meet. Daily life here is woven together with celebration, prayer, and friendship — community reunions full of joy, sharing, and a deep respect for the dignity of each person.

This vision was carried by Jean Vanier, who founded L’Arche in 1964, believing that people with and without disabilities have much to give one another, and that living together transforms us all.
